About So Shiok
When the artist cc approached me about shooting a video to promote her single, 'so shiok'. The song was about how deluded people can get when caught up in illusion. i had to depict that delusion, of being so high, so shiok.
An opportunity to shoot on the subway came, and naturally we jumped on it! A trip (in more ways than one!) was PERFECT!
With budget constraints, limited available train time, pre-pro was insane! I shot with two 16mm, EclairACL/ Bolex, bought on ebay. The exterior shots were shot on HDV.
The biggest surprise came during telecine transfer. The bolex footage was totally MESSED UP! We found out the camera had not been properly loaded and scratched the film, bouncing on the gate. Guess what, we used that footage anyway!
We used my G5 and cut with FCP and did all the compositing and special effects with Combustion.
