About Sevin:Thurdy

The Portsmouth, Virginia hip hop MCs/songwriters raquel ROCKWELL and Black VON got their start in 1997 being affiliated with a local super group called KONTRA, one similar in comparison to WuTang. When both ROCKWELL and VON agreed that the industry was missing something unique, they decided in 2004 to form Sevin:Thurdy (), the first male/female rap duo in history. The term ‘730’ originated from a code used in the Police Force which describes a ‘crazy person’ on the loose.

“We’ve been friends all our lives; we grew up together, so our chemistry is crazy…as well as our flows and the whole concept of a male/female rap duo,” explained the members.

Being ever observant of the fact that Virginia lacks major musical resources, ROCKWELL and VON took it a step further and thus created Makin’ Movez Records, LLC., an independent label which they signed themselves under in 2004.

With a style that would be best described as a ‘lucrative clash between southern drawl and northern swag’ they have inevitably gained the support of many Virginia music lovers.

“Their songs have done wonders for the radio!”, commented Doug Perry, Program Director at WNSB’s 91.1FM college radio station, about Sevin:Thurdy’s party rocking anthems and infectious hooks.

Performing at several local and out of town venues has gained them experience as well as showmanship which resulted in their October 2007 Blendzville Award for ‘Best Hip Hop Group’.

‘Itz About Time’, Sevin:Thurdy’s debut album, is set to be released in early April following their promotional campaign.
