About Tanya Radtke
Tanya Radtke is a native to Sarasota Florida, born into a family of artists, musicians, poets, and performers. She was naturally drawn to the performing Arts from a very young age. As a child Tanya studied ballet and jazz and drama at Ellen Meade Studios. She was also a student of drama and modern dance at The Florida Studio Theater. Later she attended Booker, and was in their Performing arts program where she studied voice and drama. Tanya sang in Booker’s chorus for three years and performed in competitions around the west coast of Florida.
There has always been music in the air. Tanya grew up around songwriters and watched them in their creative process writing songs in the creative sanctuary, that was her father’s art studio. Some of these artists have gone on to great success. One such example is Gove Scrivner who now resides in Nashville Tennessee. He has recorded numerous albums of his own, and recorded with many other great songwriters such as Nanci Griffith.
These songwriters seemed to have a message to convey, and it was powerfully inspiring. Around 20 years of age Tanya began to play guitar and write songs. Up until this point she was only writing lyrical ideas and melodies acapella. This had always been a way for her to express her experiences, thoughts, and emotions. Now she was finding a new voice. She formed a band in 1998 with Carmela of Radiofree Carmela and the Transmitters. The group Thread was an Americana neo-folk and adult alternative band with two girls leading and in constant harmony. They performed together for four years and still come together for special events. Tanya was longing to realize her inner muse. She aspired write and record a solo project that would allow her to be not just a vocalist, but a singer songwriter with her own style and message as well. Begin is her most recent solo project released in January or 2008. Tanya and her band are performing and building a following in the Tampa Bay area and they are working to branch out even further.
