About Megan Morrison
Megan Morrison acquired her love for all things country growing up on her family's cattle ranch in Grey County near Holstein, Ontario. Her true country personality comes to the fore in her love for horses, cattle, and Rodeo. However, her love of country music, and her passion for singing country music comes from a place deep within her soul.
Megan was born on March 26, 1988, into a family of three older brothers. Less than a year later, her younger brother, Colton, was born on March 21, 1989. Megan and Colton were the best of friends, spending all their time together. The pair loved country music, and could often be found belting out tunes in the backroom of their family's farmhouse. At the tender age of 5 and 6, respectively, they told their Mother that they intended to buy a ranch together in Alberta, raise horses, and Rodeo, so that they could always be together. Of course, their Mother made light of the situation, asking them "how are you planning on paying for it - with monopoly money?" Megan and Colton promptly informed their Mother that they intended to have a country band, and play all over to make money to buy the ranch. The pair kept on learning and singing songs, until the tragic night of April 26, 1996 when Colton was killed in a farm accident while riding on the family ATV quad. All through the days of the funeral home visitation, Megan never left the side of Colton's casket. She was totally shattered and heartbroken. About two weeks after the funeral, Megan approached her Mother and declared, "It's all up to me now Mom to make our dream come true." At first her Mother didn't understand what "dream" she was talking about, so Megan pointed out "to have the country band, and to buy that ranch in Alberta." Since that declaration by that small devastated girl, there has emerged through years of music and vocal training, numerous performances in both Canada and the United States, a talented passionate soulful singer who has a set of pipes on her that are as strong in range, as they are in their volume. Each time she steps on stage, she carries a picture of Colton in her pocket so that he is taking the stage with her. She has appeared on the same bill or opened for such artists as Carroll Baker, The Good Brothers, Adam Gregory, Jason McCoy, Pam Tillis, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band to name a few. The Calgary Stampede, Havelock Jamboree in Ontario, and the CRS in Nashville, Tennessee are just a few of the prestigious events she has performed at over the years.
Megan began recording her first Independent CD "When Dreams Have Wings" at the age of 12; released her first single to radio at the age of 13. Three singles from that CD received national, UK, and European radio airplay, with the last single "Too Hot to Handle" sitting on the CanCountry Chart from November 2002 to September 2003. In 2002, she was one of the final nominees at the OCPFA Ontario Country Music Awards for Future Star of the Year. In 2004, she was again one of the final nominees in two categories at the OCPFA Ontario Country Music Awards for Female Artist of the Year, and Rising Star of the Year. Megan is currently working on her second CD under the direction of 2003 CCMA Producer of the Year, and Multi-Juno Award Winner, Joel Feeney. Joel is most noted for his own country music career, and as Producer of Doc Walker. The release of the first single from her upcoming CD is slated for the spring of 2005. In the summer of 2004, Megan} signed a Distribution contract with Royalty Records.
In the summer of 2003, Megan won Sony Canada's version of "Nashville Star" at Ontario Place in Toronto, Ontario. The summer of 2004 found her competing in the Vocal Solo portion of the Talent Contest at the world's largest rodeo, the National High School Rodeo Finals in Gillette, Wyoming where over 1500 participants compete from 39 America States, 5 Canadian Provinces, and Australia. Megan won first place against stiff competition from the other 6 vocal finalists. As for the Rodeo portion, Megan qualified to compete in Breakaway Roping at the Nationals in Wyoming, and also at the Canadian High School Rodeo Finals in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Megan has taken a tragedy, used it to fuel her passion for singing, life, and to give meaning to her brother Colton's short life. She loves to make her fans smile, and dance to her music. When Megan experiences her audiences enjoyment of her music, she knows she has chosen the right path towards "their" dream by bringing joy to others through her music.
