About Lyla D'Souza
Mosaic Life
Lyla, a London-based Australian rock/soul singer-songwriter has been performing across the UK, Europe and Australia for the past eight years. She has worked with the likes of Mike Rowe (Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow, Oasis), Matt Condon (Katie Melhua, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra) and Greystoke Productions (Elton John, Terence Trent Darby) with publishing credits with Sony BMG (UK), Sony (France), Zomba Music, Refunkt, M6 and Ministry of Sound.
Currently working on her debut album, session singing and writing as well as vigorously performing around the UK and Europe on the originals/corporate functions circuits, she has performed for the likes of Shirley Bassey, Mick Jagger, The Mainz Music Festival, (Germany), Plymouth Music Festival (UK), Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (Australia), SA Fringe Festival (Australia) as well as some of Europe’s most prestigious venues including the Hotel de Paris (Monaco), The Dorchester, and the Ritz Carlton (London) to name but a few. As a result of years fronting various bands alongside top international musicians such as Ian Gibbons (20 years with the Kinks), Pete Adams (Tom Jones, Madonna), PJ Phillips (Dolly Parton, Vanessa Mae), Warrick Hornby (the Whitlams), Lyla has been moulded into a consummate performer with the agility to both engage and entertain an audience of 80 to 8,000.
Growing up with a broad taste of music, she has been influenced by stadium rock artists such as U2, Oasis and INXS as well as singer-songwriters including Suzanne Vega and Tracy Chapman, through to the soul greats like Aretha Franklin and Bill Withers. With all that in the mix she has become an all rounder both vocally and musically.
With the vocal prowess of Alanis Morissette, the upfront feminine angst of PJ Harvey/ Shirley Manson balanced with the delicate tones and phrasings of Eva Cassidy, her music takes you on an emotional yet entertaining journey through the heart and soul of a girl who has been many places, seen many faces and implores the listener to keep their mind and ears open to all that this mosaic life has to offer.
