About Forsyth's Fireside Christmas Album
If you need a definition of payola please head over to wikipedia.org.
I never said nor implied you were doing anything wrong. We simply fixed a loophole that allowed artists to artificially raise their play counts. We fixed the loophole. There are of course going to be other loopholes which i'm sure your IT guys could exploit if they wanted to, and as we progress we will continue to refine the system to make it as accurate and as fair for all artists as we can.
You mention Grace Potter specifically, other artists who are prominent in the charts include Marla Sokoloff, Shiny Toy Guns, K'naan, Tally Hall who all have something in common, a certain amount of notoriety. This brings them sales, traffic, and plays. And yes we do promote them, and oddly enough not one of them pays us for promotion, we do it because we believe in the music. That's what we do here, give artists access to the tools we feel will help them with their careers, and promote the artists who we truly believe in and want to get behind. There are also many other artists on the charts who we have little or no relationship with. The charts are a pretty even playing field, and will continue to become more even as we refine the process. They are also perhaps the smallest portion of our site. www.indie911.com/indie911, or indie911.com/why-join-indie911 will both give you a better understanding of the other 95% of what our site and our company do for artists, labels, and filmmakers.
If you still think this a site you don't want to be associated with because of our efforts to constantly improve our service for our members, then perhaps we aren't the right fit for you.

I suppose had I let them all sign up with you you wouldn't be so judgmental. did it ever pass through your mind to at least let people know what you were about to do? I could have got my IT guy to at least start working on a solution before we got wiped out. and even if you are going to change a system how can you go back and take away what has already been in place ? Now it just looks like your stacking it for the ones who are paying.

The charts are now fair (or more fair than they previously were), and allow artists who don't manipulate their play counts a better shot at appearing in the charts. I'm sorry if you are unhappy or displeased with this change, but if you would prefer not to be associated with a site that keeps play counts fair and honest for all users, then we are sorry to see you go and wish you well.

I've heard of people running robots on myspace and that has kept me putting the indie site on all of our invites. I am so unhappy about this and will have to find a way to let the music community know .
