About Joe Leonard
Joe Leonard is a somewhat misdirected midwestern kid who moved to LA last year and is currently working as a post-coordinator for indie features shot on HD. Joe graduated from NYU's undergraduate film program in 2002 and worked at the Criterion Collection where he was paid minimum wage to watch movies. Blatantly Subtle was an idea that became a production animal as soon as Joe bought a DV camera and his friends Sam, Bob and Jill got religion in the form of Final Cut Pro and ideas over beer mugs in the East Village. Recently Joe won a screenwriting/directing award, became a finalist for the Richard Vague grant, and participated in the IFP NY Emerging Directors lab with Scott Macaulay.

Blatantly Subtle Productions
Joe Leonard's production collective -- MOVIES SO SUBTLE IT'S BLATANT -- a network of filmmakers, actors, editors and sound designers dedicated to developing new work using digital technology, guerrilla tactics, and credit cards. Made by up-and-coming filmmakers and actors who have gotten lost, wish they could sell out, and couldn't care less about love... these are movies that resent the phrase "coming of age." Since 2001 the Blatantly Subtle collective has produced and screened dozens of short films based on a belief that if you want to make movies, you should. For the most recent updates, check out Joe's How I Got Lost blog and our press releases.
