As a "roots " style Reggae Artist, songs for the upcoming album display varieties of styles: Lovers Rock, Dancehall and Ska. Marquis Melody's vocal delivery can be described as a singjay style with a mix of traditional singing and Jamaican deejay styles. This style is currently displayed in artists like Richie Spice, Jr. Gong, Warrior King, and Jr. Kelly. Marquis Melody attempts to present a varied experience for listeners rooted with a lust for roots reggae musical format and conscious lyrics. Marquis Melody, Songwriter, Producer, and Performer, is having a tale of two cities having roots both in Oakland, California and Kingston, Jamaica. A fan of Reggae since the 70s, he initially began to song write Hip-Hop and R&B songs in the mid 80's while at the same time playing Reggae rhythms via guitar and keyboard. As his love for Reggae grew stronger he began to focus exclusively on writing Reggae songs. One day in the 90s driving with friends to Negril from Kingston he was singing Reggae songs for fun but his JA friends were so impressed they strongly encouraged him "No matter what you do, never stop singing!" In 2000 he took on the name Marquis Melody forming his own recording studio/record label/publishing company: Skank So Studio. In 2002 he began formal recording of songs for his debut album project "Straight From the Heart" in Kingston, Jamaica. Most recordings were done in collaboration with Skank So Studio and Tuff Gong International, the label of the late and great Bob Marley. Musical influences of Mr. Melody include American R&B artists such as James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes and Curtis Mayfield. Jamaican influences are Bob Marley, Sugar Minott, Horace Andy, Peter Tosh, Ziggy Marley & Melody Makers, Barrington Levy, Damian & Julian Marley, and Richie Spice among a list of others. Marquis Melody believes that the music he makes is music not that which is just for himself but also that which is for other people to enjoy. He feels that an artist has a great influence upon the people that is extraordinary hence there is a sense of great responsibility. He chooses to use such relative power in such a beneficial manner as to have positive affect on the mind and mood of the listener. He engineers many of his own riddims skanking on guitar and piano himself henceforth came the very name of his studio, Skank So Recording Studio. As a musically inclined individual, melodies often came before lyrics for him hence the designated artist name Marquis Melody. Listen for a fresh sound in Reggae music early in 2006 as Marquis Melody formally introduces himself to the world with his debut album project "Straight From The Heart." * * * * * * * * * Electronic Press Kit at www.sonicbids.com/MarquisMelody Text Provided Courtesy Skank So Studio P.O.
