Btaka was born in Oakland, California and he is a Pomo/Apache Native American. He started as a DJ in 1989 but started producing his own music by 1992. In 1993, Btaka took his demo to Canyon Records in Arizona, but they had already signed WOR and was not planning to signed another native rap artist so he was turned down. Btaka help start Indian Funk Records, Strictly Native Entertainment, and now Westside Warrior Records. With his first release Indian Funk selling over 2,000 copies in 1995, he was able to build his own empire. Btaka was offered a deal from SMG, whom has worked with Master P, E-40, and many other Bay Area Artists, for his second release. The Indian Roots CD was released later in 1995 and sold over 4, 000 copies. Btaka then teamed up with his brother to create the Indian Funk Crew which debut album Stayin Real sold over 2,000 copies with no distribution. Btaka then started producing for his brother Rollin' Fox who won the Native American Music Award For Best Hip-Hop with the album Strictly Native in 2001. In 2003, Btaka would release the compilation Native Warriors which was nominated for Best Compilation at the Native American Music Awards. In 2004, he would help natives shine with the release of Underground Nativez Volume 1 which featured natives all over the United States. In 2005, Btaka produced his brother's latest single Rez Cop and he would also help Geno release his first CD Struggle II Survive. Now the stage is set with over 100 shows and 8 cds produced, Btaka is now ready to release his long-awaited third cd Still In Da Game.

I have been following your stuff since I started listening to Tribe 2's stuff(mistic, shade, and the rest of the crew) but I just wanted to tell you that I can relate to "my best friend" and I appreciate the fact that many of the natives are trying to get into the music scene. I am a song writer too but I have no idea what to do so if you could give me some information on how to get started, then that would really help me out alot.
