About Duke Nguyen Browning, Songwriter

 Gift of Love

If I were asked what the greatest gift is that I have received from someone other than immediate family members and relatives, my honest answer would be, “All the love and care that I have received from the people I have come across over the years—some of whom have become friends, and some of whom I have not ever seen again.

How much has that love and care made difference in my life?   Again, the simple and honest truth is that it has been a big difference in a positive and wonderful way.

I will never be able to repay those who have given me so much love and care.  However, in their honor and, in some cases, in their memories, I hope that I will have the opportunity to pass on to others some of the love and care they had for me.

As this Christmas season approaches, I would like to start a campaign to raise funds for the children of the men and women in the U.S. Military who have sacrificed their lives on behalf of the United States.

Using the music that I have written within the last couple years, I am asking for your support so that together,  we may show our appreciation, love, and care to the children who unfortunately lost a parent in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.   As a starting point for my campaign, I will release an album entitled “This Christmas – No Postmaster Can Deliver to You My Love” on November 1, 2007.  This album consists of 12 Christmas and Christian songs that I have written within the last 18 months.  Suggested retail price for this CD is $14.95.  I will contribute 70% of all the album’s net sale proceeds*** to the fund, beginning from the date of its release on November 1, 2007, until December 31, 2009.   It is my hope that in the next 25 months, with your support, we will not only be able to show our love and care to the children who lost their parents in the current war while serving the United States, but also contribute to the financial and educational needs for these children.

This calling has nothing to do with religion or politics, nor does it suggest your support or nonsupport of the war.  It primary objective is to let these children and their families know that we do care and appreciate the service of their parents; therefore, I hope that many of you will participate, regardless of your political or religious affiliation.

Duke's love and passion for music began as a child but when Duke left Vietnam and came to the United States the day the Vietnam’s war ended in 1975, the initial English language barrier prevented him from further pursuing his dream of a career in music. Upon his arrival in the United States, learning English was Duke's top priority; thus, with his passion for music, Duke found a fun and enjoyable way to learn English by starting out with several music albums that had the lyrics printed on the record covers. These records included Barry Manilow’s “I Write The Songs,” John Denver’s "Back Home Again," Seals & Crofts’ "Diamond Girls," Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” Jim Croce’s “Photographs & Memories”.  It did not take long before Duke had the Vietnamese translations written all over the printed lyrics of those record covers so that he could figure out the meaning of the songs. After many years of pursuing other dreams in the United States, it seems natural for Duke to fulfill one of his first dreams in life – writing and occasionally singing.

Duke received his JD degree from Washburn University, School of Law, in Topeka, Kansas, and is licensed to practice law in Texas.  He received his BA degree from Hope College, in Holland, Michigan.  Duke is fluent in oral as well as written English and Vietnamese.  Duke, his wife Kerrin, and their three daughters, Amy, Laura, and Michelle are members of the Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, in Katy, Texas.
