About AJ Blues

hey yall. im aj blues. cuz im aj and im blues! but offstage you can
call me "alan". im a 16 year old electric guitar player from tampa,
florida. i luv the blues rock kinda thangs and uh pretty much any kind
of music except country!

ive been playing guitar for about 8 years now, since i was 8 years old.
stevie ray vaughan was the very first guy who inspired me to go out and
get a fender stratocaster, turn up to 10 and go! along with stevie ray,
hendrix is another one of my influences, along with buddy guy, and john
mayer.

i love to dress "flashy" onstage most of the time. sometimes ill just play with a t shirt or somethin, but i like to look fresh.

skippers smokehouse, centro ybor, and the belleview biltmore are just some of the places ive played at.

im currently touring with Al "Coffee" McDaniel & A Special Blend.

i hope that covers all the info anybody needs to know. if you wanna know more, just ask!

GUITARS

Fender SRV Strat - I call it "Number One" or "First Wife".
Squier Affinity Special Strat - I call it "Brownie".
Fender Mexican Standard Strat - I call this one "Tequila".
Brownsville ST20 Model - I call this "Blackie".

AMPS
Fender Princeton 65 driving a 1x15 cabinet

PEDALBOARD
I have on my pedalboard an ol' Vox wah-wah, a Tube Screamer (TS9), and a Line 6 Verbzilla Reverb stompbox. Then from there, they all go to a Digitech TSR-12 Effects Processor.

The Tube Screamer is set with drive on maximum, tone halfway, and level on 11 o'clock.

The Verbzilla is basically set to spring reverb, with a subtle amount of reverb.

The signal path is like this: Guitars >>> Vox wah-wah >>> Tube Screamer >>> Reverb >>> Digitech >>> Amps

* My "First Wife" is set with the strings high enough for a quarter to fit under them at the 10th fret.

* The pickups are almost all the way down to the pickguard, leaving 1/8" from pickguard to the poles.

* Strings are usually GHS Heavy Boomers .012", .016", .019", .028", .038", .052".

* The bridge is left-handed, meaning the tremolo arm hangs off the top part of the bridge. I use 4 springs, 2 on each side, in the tremolo system. I also have the bridge set flush with the body. The tremolo arm is made out of stainless steel and the threads are lubricated with Big Bends Nut Sauce (graphite & grease). A small wad of cotton is placed at the bottom of the block hole to prevent the arm of stripping and to ease removal of broken bars.

* The saddles also have 5/8" pieces of plastic fitted over the saddle "break points" at the 1st string, 2nd string, 3rd string, and 4th string saddles.

* Frets are probably the tallest and widest, but big enough to fit in the fingerboard. They are Dunlop 6100. These are used because of my wide bends and they give me more sustain and response. This also comes into play with the strings height, as well as the thickness of the strings.

* My "First Wife" is lubricated at all moving parts and contact points with Big Bends Nut Sauce to keep the guitar in tune and to prevent strings breakage. There is Nut Sauce applied onto the saddles, nut, string tree, and where the spring attaches at the claw and block.

* The strings are wound at the tuners with 3 full winds for the best angle at the nut.

My other guitars are set similar to my "First Wife", but with minor alterations. For example, "Brownie" has lighter strings than "Number One" with the bridge set so that I can pull up and push down on the tremolo.

I hope that answers all your gear questions. If you want more info, let me know. I'm a total "guitar geek".
