About Coven
On the edge of a forest lives Hansel and Gretel.
They live with their father and wicked stepmother, who convinces the
father to take his children into the forest and desert them. As the
family sets out into the forest Hansel secretly drops pebbles to mark a
path home. After hours of walking the children are told to rest and the
parents abandon them. The children follow the glistening path until
they find home. The stepmother demands that her plan once again be
executed. The children are led into the forest and Hansel sprinkles
breadcrumbs to secure their way home again. Hansel and Gretel are told
to wait, but no one comes back for them. This time they have no trail
home; the birds have devoured Hansel’s breadcrumbs. For days the
children wander weak with starvation. They eat poisonous berries, which
cause them to hallucinate. Hansel enters a cave and is eaten by a
snake. Gretel runs away in terror, wandering the woods. She reaches a
clearing in the Kremtic woods, finding a narrow dwelling that grows
from the earth, and discovers Indetta, a sorceress of the Kremtic
Coven, who saves Gretel. Indetta becomes Gretel’s caretaker, teaching
her the ways of the supernatural. Gretel lives with Indetta’s until her
18th Birthday, when Gretel can harness her learned powers. During this
period of initiation, Gretel must take the life of the stepmother
through Neopagan rituals. Upon the completion of the ceremony, Gretel
secures her place within the coven.

It reminds me of interesting such stories as Rustico & Alibech in the Tenth novell (Boccaccio, "Decameron")
