About Blood Orange

Blood Orange was born out of the frustration of three guys living in the Mohave Valley of Arizona.  Paul, Clayton and Dave have been in and around the music industry most of their lives in one way or another.  It seemed that trends and the fashions associated with the music business never really made a whole lot of sense to these guys.  Either you listened to rock, or you listened to Top 40, Alternative, Progressive, pop, dance, rap, r&b, etc etc etc.  There always seemed to be a label associated with each genre and style of music.  Not that this is a bad thing.  People need to put a label on something in order to be able to better catagorize their tastes and feelings and emotions.  Nothing wrong there.  Except from a true musicians standpoint.  Think about it.  Why limit yourself to one specific style of music.  You go out and you buy a CD from a band you like.  How often does it all sound the same.  Track after track of the same type of music.  What we wanted to accomplish, to experiment with, to create, was an album that defied genre labels.  As musicians we feel that music is an expression of emotion, an expression of a myraid of many different influences that come to you on a daily basis.  Now of course there is a recurring theme to our music, and that is present in the lyrics.  While we are trying to maintain some semblence of structure with the message, the styles are varied and the feel of each tune is completely different.  We think that the music should flow from within you, not created as a marketing tool in an effort to pad your wallet.  The message in the lyrics can be sometimes easily understood, and other times can be quite obscure.  This is also intentional in that it lends itself to interpretation by all who listen to it.  Some folks hopefully will identify with it as it relates to thier own personal experiences, while others will just enjoy the beat and go on. This is all good and what we're hopefully going to accomplish with this album.
