About Ambush

AMBUSH, the high-energy country rock band born in 1993, has been dubbed "the little band with the big sound.”

Members Mark McDonell (vocals/guitar), Riq Turner (vocals/guitar) and Skip Layton (drums) recognized the power of music and the impact of such before most children enter grade school. Growing up surrounded by the sounds of country, blues, jazz and rock, each set out to make music their life and began performing at their local high schools, forming their own bands, and eventually taking their respective sound on the road. Their travels took each throughout Canada and the United States and led to them playing and sharing stages with some of country music’s top icons.

Mark McDonell, Riq Turner and Jim Wright’s unprecedented combination of talent, experience and contagious enthusiasm contributes to their ever-growing popularity. The band’s high energy performances highlight self-penned material with a few all time favourites thrown in for good measure. AMBUSH has a fan base in Eastern Ontario 250,000 strong and growing. Consistently booked 50 weeks per year since 1993 and with over 2500 performances behind them, AMBUSH captivates crowds of all ages.

With audiences, promoters and reviewers raving about AMBUSH’s live performances the band produced 2 independent CDs, which were quickly snapped up by fans. The highly anticipated upcoming AMBUSH CD is set for release in early 2006 and has already produced the successful single, “This Could Be the Night”, which has been getting solid airplay at major stations from coast to coast. Produced by CCMA producer of the year Rick Hutt and featuring tracks co-written with Thomas Wade and Jamie Warren, the album is already generating impressive advance buzz.

AMBUSH has performed and shared stages with Tim McGraw, Lonestar, Charley Pride, Terri Clark, Allison Krauss, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Jason McCoy, Prairie Oyster, Marty Stuart and Loretta Lynn, to name a few. It’s only a matter of time, before the rest of the world finds out what Eastern Ontario already knows – AMBUSH is fun, sheer entertainment and raw energy.
